Astronomy basics, Q&A

Post by chemikerin »

Hello,
I couldn't find the appropriate topic so I decided to start this one.

I want to know how constellations would look from the Earth after a long time, for example after 1,000,000 years... Will they change their ,,shape"? I mean, that every star has a different speed, so this may cause constellations to reshape...

I guess, that they might reshape after a long time, but not significantly, as the stars are too far from us and even a significant distance change between the constellation stars, would not be perceived by us...

Waiting for your replies... :)

Hi chemikerin,

Yes this is an 'astronomy area' issue, and perhaps there are some here who may be able to assist.

Meanwhile, if you haven't sought the answer in the many many many  astronomy sites, this one might give you some of the information you are seeking: http://science.kqed.org/quest/2012/07/2 ... over-time/

Best,
Admin.
